about
I first heard this title spoken by my 4th-Grade painting teacher, Melvin Minthorne, long before I learned that “Broadway Boogie Woogie” is the name of an actual work of art by Piet Mondrian. Our homework was to imagine what a painting with this title would look like. However, Mr. Minthorne forgot about the homework, summer vacation arrived, and so the painting “Broadway Boogie Woogie” lived on only in my imagination. Many years later, by chance, I discovered that it was the title of an existing painting on display at MOMA. Perhaps fulfilling Mr. Minthorne’s hope, the painting looks absolutely nothing like the one I had imagined! I like it — but I still prefer mine!
lyrics
Taken out of class on every Friday afternoon
The teacher Melvin Minthorne
said I want you to use your imagination to see this painting
I saw a glamorous woman with her hair done up in cascading curls, whirling in a spin
propelled by an unseen partner
the blur of the Broadway lights, catching the glint in her eye
Broadway Boogie Woogie
What does it mean to you?
Broadway Boogie Woogie
Melvin Minthorne, this one's for you.
Near the end of June, and patiently school bells waited to ring
All he gave us was a title, not even that it was a Mondrian masterpiece
at MOMA
I saw a glamorous woman with her hair done up in cascading curls, whirling in a spin
propelled by an unseen partner
the blur of the Broadway lights, catching the glint in her eye
Broadway Boogie Woogie
What does it mean to you?
Broadway Boogie Woogie
Melvin Minthorne, this one's for you.

I'm digging the covers. Some of these charts are harder to pull off with a small group (i.e. The Jeep is Jumpin'.) Overall it's a fun album with popular songs. The version of Castle Rock especially stands out. Jose Tello

I took part in your two live concerts at The Royal Swing Fest in Torino, this weekend.
You're simply amazing.
And your yesterdays last song, "St. James Infirmary"... I'm still getting goose bumps.
Bravissimi, ragazzi! swingphony
